Parades Commission for Northern Ireland  

The Parades Commission for Northern Ireland (PCNI) is independent of government. It has the power to place restrictions on public processions and related protest meetings. PCNI is an executive non-departmental public body of the Northern Ireland Office.

Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman  

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman investigates complaints that individuals have been treated unfairly or have received poor service from government departments, other public organisations and the NHS in England. The Ombudsman works with the Cabinet Office.

Parole Board  

The Parole Board is an independent body that carries out risk assessments on prisoners to determine whether they can be safely released into the community. The Parole Board of England and Wales is an executive non-departmental public body of the Ministry of Justice.

Passenger Focus  

Passenger Focus is the independent passenger watchdog, set up by the government to represent the interests of Britain’s rail passengers, bus and tram passengers in England (outside of London) and passengers on scheduled domestic coach services in England. It offers information and advice to passengers and will pursue complaints on behalf of passengers that train companies have failed to resolve. PF is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Transport.

Pension Protection Fund Ombudsman  

PPFO is a tribunal non-departmental public body of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Pensions Advisory Service  

The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) gives information and guidance to members of the public on state, company and personal pensions. It helps any member of the public who has a problem with their occupational or private pension arrangement. TPAS is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Pensions Ombudsman  

The Pensions Ombudsman (PO) impartially investigates complaints from members of pension schemes (including personal pensions) or their beneficiaries, employers or trustees. As the Pension Protection Fund Ombudsman, the same person investigates complaints about the way people and their cases have been handled by the Pension Protection Fund and conducts appeals against decisions issued by the Financial Assistance Scheme. PO is a tribunal non-departmental public body of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Pensions Regulator  

The Pensions Regulator (TPR) is the UK regulator of work-based pension schemes. It works with trustees, employers, pension specialists and business advisers, giving guidance on what is expected of them. TPR is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Planning Inspectorate  

The Planning Inspectorate deals with planning appeals, national infrastructure planning applications, examinations of local plans and other planning-related and specialist casework in England and Wales. the Planning Inspectorate is an executive agency of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Plant Varieties and Seeds Tribunal  

The Plant Varieties and Seeds Tribunal (PVST) considers decisions made by the government about seed certifications or by the Controller of Plant Breeders’ Rights. The government proposes to close, merge or reform this body as part of the Public Bodies Reform Programme. PVST is a tribunal non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

Police Arbitration Tribunal  

The Police Arbitration Tribunal (PAT) acts under the arbitration service Acas as the final recourse for negotiations between employers of police and police staff on which no agreement can be reached about hours of duty, leave or pay and allowances. The Home Secretary is not bound by the recommendations of the PAT. PAT is a tribunal non-departmental public body of the Home Office.

Police Discipline Appeals Tribunal  

The Police (Discipline) Appeals Tribunal hears appeals against the findings of internal disciplinary proceedings brought against members of the police force. Police Discipline is a tribunal non-departmental public body of the Home Office.

Police Negotiating Board  

The Police Negotiating Board (PNB) negotiates agreements between employers of police (local authorities) and police staff, which it recommends to the Home Secretary to become part of police regulations. PNB is an advisory non-departmental public body of the Home Office.

Prison Services Pay Review Body  

We give independent advice on pay for governors and managers, prison officers and support grades in the England and Wales Prison Service, and equivalent posts in Northern Ireland. PSPRB is an advisory non-departmental public body of the Ministry of Justice.

Prisons and Probation Ombudsman  

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) investigates complaints from prisoners, those on probation and those held in immigration removal centres. It also investigates all deaths that occur among prisoners, immigration detainees and the residents of probation hostels (Approved Premises). PPO works with the Ministry of Justice.

Privy Council Office  

The Privy Council is how interdepartmental agreement is reached on items of government business which, for historical or other reasons, fall to ministers as privy counsellors rather than as departmental ministers. The Privy Council Office (PCO) provides secretariat services for the Council, including the arrangements leading to the making of all Royal Proclamations and Orders in Council. PCO works with the Cabinet Office.
